Vijayraghavgarh Fort, located in the Katni district of Madhya
Pradesh, is a historical fort built in the 19th century. It was
constructed by Thakur Prayag Das, a ruler of the region, and is named
after Lord Vijay Raghav, a form of Lord Rama. The fort is known for its
unique architecture and historical significance.
33 km from Katni this is a historical fort. This place is 350 m high from
sea level the prince PRAYAGDAS has formed a new town near MAUJA, PADRIYA
and LOHARWADA and constructed a temple of lord VIJAYRAGHAV and the fort
was named as VIJAYRAGHAVGARH .
The new town has been given the same name. At one side of this fort a
court is available, Other side is of a beautiful building known as
RANGMAHAL there are stone at various part of the fort designed from
KARITALAI. This is the most beautiful fort in katni district.
Fort is dedicated to lord Vijayraghav and has sita-temple, soldier
barack, kitchen, toilet, samadhi etc. in it. Vijayraghav fort has
evidenced famous revolt of 1857 which is turning point in Indian Freedom
struggle. King Prayagdas took part in freedom struggle in 1857 and
blocked the supply line of EastIndia company force (Jabalpur-Kolkata).

Constructed in 1826 by Thakur Prayag Das, Vijayraghavgarh Fort was
originally built to serve as both a defensive structure and a royal
residence. It played a significant role in the region’s history,
especially during the British colonial period, and served as a strategic
site for local rulers. The architecture of the fort reflects a mix of
local styles and influences from the colonial era.
Goddess Umariyapan Katni junction is having half circular Mode (turn)
from wagon yard. So people call it “Mudwara” Another story is that there
was a village call Modwar that has been given as a reward of bravery for
cutting Mud (heads). A similar story is about the British government
used to cut heads of Baggies and plunderer and hang them in squares to
afraid people of doing crimes.
